英文單字(28)《prise 抓住 / sert 放》

之所以不使用一個字的「抓」，是由於抓到以後還有一個「握住」的動作，為了和「抓一下」的動作做出區別。

很簡單，「放置」的動作，常用的「desert(沙漠)」和「insert(嵌入)」就是這個字衍生而來。

comprise (of) 包含、構成(v.)

抓在一起的東西表示此物是由這些東西構成或包含這些東西。

The course comprises a class book, a practice book, and a CD.
The class is comprised mainly of Italian and French students.

reprisal 報復(n.)

把人抓回來做一樣的事情。這個字通常用在政治即軍事上的報復。注意字尾是「prisal」。

They promised that individuals could live freely without fear of reprisal from the military.
The attack was in reprisal for the kidnapping of their leaders.

surprise 驚喜(n.)、使驚喜(v.)

突然從天上把人抓住，必定會使人感到驚奇。

enterprise 企業、公司、事業心、進取心(n.)

作為一間企業(公司)就該有辦法進入經濟核心並抓取利益；為利益目標而進入核心努力抓取的心態也可以當作是進取心(事業心)。

prison 監獄(n.)

抓住的名詞就是放抓人的地方。

imprison 關押(v.)

把人放進監獄即關押。
He was imprisoned in 1965 for attempted murder.

assert 堅定主張、斷言(v.)

走過去很肯定的放置下去表示堅定自己的主張或斷下言論。

I really must assert myself more in meetings.
He asserts that she stole money from him.
She very rarely asserts her authority over the children.

exert 行使、發揮(v.)

把自己擁有的東西拿出來在需要的地方放置即為行使、發揮。記得「sert」的「s」會被「ex」的「x」吃掉。

If you were to exert your influence they might change their decision.
I was too tired to exert myself.

concert 音樂會(n.)

把樂器或演奏者放在一起的地方就是音樂會。記得只有這個字的「sert」被改為「cert」。

desert 沙漠(n.)、遺棄、逃兵(v.)

把人或物放下然後離開就是遺棄；逃兵就是遺棄國家責任的行為；沙漠是最容易被遺棄的地方，因為太廣了不會被人發現或記得。

They were lost in the desert for nine days.
He deserted his wife and family for another woman.
Soldiers who deserted and were caught were shot.

dessert 甜點(n.)

和沙漠差一個「s」，可以幻想有一款叫做「沙S漠」的夢幻甜品，英文寫作「deSsert」來方便記憶。

insert 插入、嵌入(v.)、插入物(n.)

將東西放進裡面就是插入、嵌入。
