英文單字(40)《gress 去》


人透過走路進行移動的動作,不使用「走」一字是為了和「ceed(走)」做出區分。






egress 出口、出去(n.)

出去的地方就是出口。

The main egress from the restaurant had been blocked off.



progress 進展(n.v.)

不斷的往前行就是進展。

Technological progress has been so rapid over the last few years.
My Spanish never really progressed beyond the stage of being able to order drinks at the bar.



congress 大會、國會(n.)

各地專業的人士聚在一起開會就是大會、國會。

An international congress and an medical congress.
Both houses of Congress have rejected the recent presidential proposal on gun control.

regress 退步(v.)

倒退著往後移動就是退步。

She suffered brain damage from the car accident and regressed to the mental age of five-year-old.

ingress 入口、進入(n.)

和「egress」是相對的意思,往外是出去、往內是進入。

There had been an ingress of water into the site.
For starters, older drivers should choose a vehicle that affords easy ingress and egress.



digress 離題(v.)

話題走遠離了就是離題。

But I digress. To get back to what I was saying, this poem reflects the poet's love of nature and his his religious beliefs.
The lecturer temporarily digressed from her subject to deal with a related theory.



transgress 違背、違法(v.)

如果不聽話離開規定的地方跑到別處就會被視為違背、違法的行為。

retrogress 衰退(v.)

和「regress」很相似,倒著走回去表示衰退、惡化。

And in our society today, no progress means to retrogress.
