英文單字(22)《scribe 寫》

 

幾乎每個「scribe」的單字都可以改變字尾來變成名詞，如「script」、「scription」，只是有些字十分罕見，因此並沒有顯示在下方之中。

script 劇本、腳本(n.)

這個字就是寫程式常常提到的腳本。

ascribe 歸因於(v.)

做紀錄時，會去把歸因寫下來。

What do you ascribe your phenomenal success?

proscribe 禁止(v.)

寫在告示前方的就是政府的禁令。這個字多用在政府的禁令或剝奪權力。

In some cultures surgery is proscribed.

conscript 徵召(v.)

徵召時，會把人聚在一起簽名。這個字的字尾是「script」非「scribe」要注意。

He was conscripted into the army in the age of 18.

conscription 徵召(n.)

subscribe 訂閱(v.)

Youtube裡最常被提到的一個字，只是Youtube的訂閱是不用錢的。訂閱時要往下在單子上簽名。

subscription 訂閱費(n.)

Your business can be listed on the website for a low monthly subscription.

describe 描述(v.)

當一個人在描述經過時，通常聽的人都會拿著筆往下在紙上書寫。

description 描述(n.)

Write a description of your favorite beach.

prescribe 規定、開藥(v.)

法令都是政府預先規定的；開藥時都是照著預先寫好的處方籤才能開的。

The law prescribe that all children must go to school.
The drug is often prescribed for ulcers.
I've been prescribed painkillers.

prescription 處方(n.)

I'm not sleeping even with the prescription the doctor gave me.

inscribe 提寫、刻字(v.)

拿著筆或雕刻刀在書本或石碑上刻入文字。

The prize winners each receive a book with their names inscribed on the first page.
Some galleries commemorate donors by inscribing their name on the walls.

inscription 銘文(n.)

The inscription reads: "To Emma, with love from Harry."

superscript 上標符號(n.)

如次方數寫在右上方小小的就是一個上標符號。記得自尾是「script」。

transcribe 抄錄、改編(v.)

把原有的訊息轉移到其他媒體上就是抄錄，做些改變就是改編。

Recording of conversations are transcribed and entered into the database.
The quintet had been transcribed for clarinet and piano.

transcription 記錄(n.)

This is a phonetic transcription of the conversations that were recording on tape.

transcript 記錄(n.)

同「transcription」。

circumscribe 限制(v.)

在周圍的地上畫一個圓周表示禁止跨越，是一種限制的行為。

Their movements have been severely circumscribed since the laws come into effect.
